Why MeWe is Changing Up the Social Scene

Let’s be real: we all want to present our best selves online and with little effort. With so many social networks becoming mandatory – both personally and professionally – it can be exhausting to maintain. Yes, filters can make your skin look perfect but they can’t hide that drink in your hand when you’re supposed to be “sick.” Most employers, friends and family members are not going to be okay with this – especially grandma. But we get it, there are times you just want to be you, live your life and give certain people FOMO (i.e. your last summer fling). That’s why there’s MeWe: a new social network that offers every girl’s favorite photo and video features – and on top of that – simple control over their share and privacy settings. Here are the top 3 reasons why we’re obsessed with this new app changing up the social scene:

1. You can have all of your different groups of friends or co-workers in one place but you don’t have to show them everything. Easily decide if one, a few or all friends can see a post, photo, or video before uploading.

2. You can be that girl that everyone loves to go out with and work with, too. MeWe doesn’t share any of your posts, photos, or videos with third-parties, so it’ll never show up in a Google search.

3. You can take photos and videos and then choose from a ton of flawless filters, text overlays, custom emojis, and even create memes and GIFs (think Boomerang but waaay better).

According to a 2012 Pew Research Study, social network users are becoming more active in pruning and managing their accounts. 63% of them have deleted people from their “friends” lists, 44% have deleted comments made by others on their profile, and 37% have removed their names from photos that were tagged to identify them. In all, 48% of social media users report some level of difficulty in managing the privacy controls on their profile.
